DICKMAN & THROBBIN
Starring John Holmes as "Dickman." Porn spoof from 1986.
From IMDB via site reviewer kev1979:
John Holmes is Dickman and Tom Byron is Throbbin. Together they are a duo of superheros known as Sexcorcists that turn frigid women into sex-craving whores. This film is all about campy, corny fun just like the old "Batman" TV show that it parodies. Sadly, all the scenes without Holmes or Byron isn't as good. Needless to say, this film while not being John Holmes best that I've seen, is still enjoyable enough. Even if the only great scene in the movie is with Holmes, Byron and a stunning Amber Lynn as a virginal pop singer. (I always laugh when porn stars play virgins for some reason, but it was a hot scene none the less)

This is the Christian metal band that Jerry Only and Doyle formed after the dissolution of the original Misfits lineup in the mid-80s. Never played live, from what I understand, and here's Jerry briefly discussing the band's origin:

LAUGHING HYENAS
One of the greatest Michigan rock bands ... it's hard to express the intensity of a live Laughing Hyenas performance to anyone who only has the records to go by. Their vibe was negative but didn't repel, instead it exorcised every ugly feeling and left one feeling purified after witnessing. Watching them, you knew what it was like to see the Stooges back in 1970. Seriously. The Laughing Hyenas were heavy.

NEIL DIAMOND
"Cracklin' Rosie," circa 1970. When I was just a few years old, the family next door owned this record and whenever I visited the kids there we'd inevitably end up playing this song over and over again while we jumped on the bed. No other songs affected us the same way.

THE CRAWLING HAND
Hulu has added several 50s schlock horror films to their roster in recent weeks ... it's smart, since they probably cost very little to acquire and once they're in cyberspace numbskulled exploitation fanatics (like me) post them to their own blogs, essentially providing free advertising for the machine. But it's hard to resist ... I'm pleased to exist in a world where The Giant Gila Monster, Terror in the Haunted House (that's the one with "subliminal messages"!), Phantom From 10,000 Leagues and this ridiculous number are available for free viewing at the touch of a button. If you had told me when I was ten years old that it would be this easy to see The Car, I would have lost my mind with excitement to grow old. Actually, I'd like to tell that little guy about the cool bike I bought last year too ... he's gonna love it.

CHILDREN OF GOD HOME MOVIES
WARNING: While not explicit in any conventional way, the following videos may be disturbing to some. They were made by members of The Children of God, aka The Family, a radical Christian organization (or cult, some would argue) that advocates free love and open expressions of sexuality for all humans, including minors. Charges of prostitution and pedophilia drove church leaders underground years ago, but the Family remains active to this day. In these seemingly innocuous home movies, chapters around the world share brief updates on their evangelical activities and pledge their undying love for late Family patriarch David Berg, or deliver dispassionate sermons on the righteousness of their ministry. There's no graphic discussion of sex, nothing particularly NSFW even, but staring into the eyes of a cult member makes for heavy viewing.
"Song For Dad"
Video Report From Australia
"One Wife" Class
The Children of God, excerpted from Wikipedia ...
"The Children of God (COG), later known as the Family of Love, the Family, and now the Family International (TFI), is a Christian religious group, widely referred to as a cult by the media and some academics, that started in 1968 in Huntington Beach, California, United States. It was an off shoot of the Jesus movement of the late 1960s, with many of its early converts drawn from the hippie movement.
As TFI grew and expanded around the world, so did its message of salvation, apocalypticism, and spiritual "revolution" against the outside world that they called "the System", as well as resultant controversy. In 1974, it began a method of evangelism called Flirty Fishing, using sex to show God's love and win converts. It was also a means of raising financial support as many of the women worked as prostitutes. Flirty fishing has been compared to religious prostitution. The practice was discontinued in 1987.
The group's liberal sexuality and its publication and distribution of writings, photographs and videos advocating and documenting adult-child sexual contact and the sexualization of children led to numerous reports of child sexual abuse. A number of judicial and academic investigations in the 1990s found TFI to be a safe environment for children, yet such investigations have also highlighted troubles in its past.
The January 2005 murder of a former member by the leader's son Ricky Rodriguez (who had also left the group several years earlier) and his subsequent suicide shocked both current and former members, and led to considerable renewed media attention."

THE MENTORS
Live in 1992. Right around this time, a certain grunge/ska band I was in got an invitation to play with the Mentors at the Icepick in Muskegon, MI. The promotor mailed us his query and included about 50 fliers for the gig, which he instructed us to "spread like the AIDS virus."
We declined. And it's one of my greatest regrets.

Part Three
"A ghost of a Caribbean pirate rises from his resting-place to visit his old haunt. Finding it covered by an amusement park, and seeing that Iron Butterfly is giving a concert, he decides to liven things up by opening the gates and letting screaming fans in for free. Iron Butterfly gets upset because this means they won't get paid and they storm off the stage forcing park officials to bring on local bands such as Grit, New Society, and the Fantasy to come up and play. Fortunately, a wealthy flower child offers to pay Iron Butterfly if they finish their concert. Iron Butterfly accept and settle down to play their epic hit "In-a-Gadda-Da-Vida" and several other songs." (Synopsis courtesy of The Video Beat)

BLUE SUNSHINE
This is my wife's favorite movie. A bad batch of LSD causes the heads who sampled the stuff to lose their cool a decade later, leading to hair loss and homicidal rage. Zoltan King appears as one of cinema history's itchiest leading men. This is another Elvira, Mistress of the Dark presentation, but her schtick is worth enduring for the chance to dig this masterpiece gratis.
WEREWOLF OF WASHINGTON
Now this is a great (stupid) werewolf film. Dean Stockwell plays a White House correspondent whose rise to the top of Washington DC society is hampered by the legacy of a cursed Gypsy ... stay awake through the first half and you'll be rewarded with midgets, mad scientists and a president who loves bowling. Stockwell's character lives at the Watergate (the film was lensed before the hotel's name became shorthand for corruption), prefers to kill middle-aged women and looks more like a Malamute than a wolf once the full moon does its work. For some reason several key scenes take place in men's washrooms. Be warned, this is a Movie Macabre with Elvira, Mistress of the Dark presentation, so you'll be occasionally interrupted by the top-heavy horror hostess, but at least you don't have those annoying wisecracking robots to contend with, so relax and enjoy.
NEAR DARK
I'm not so into vampires ... I've always been more drawn to the werewolf, that hapless mortal who can exist in polite society but knows that eventually a dark moon will plunge him into an unwanted bestial frenzy. But this is one of the great vampire films, a dry and dusty take on the legend that imagines an ad hoc family of bloodsuckers prowling the underpopulated hamlets of Texas for sustenance and kicks. Romantic, scary and more believable than most ...

I bought a Canadian-release VHS tape of this wild, unpredictable Spanish film for about a buck at Crazy Mike's in Missoula, Montana. It's pretty rare stateside, but this trailer condenses the entire story into three minutes so you can get the jist of it here. Violent as hell and yes, that's Krokus on the soundtrack.

GIRL TROUBLE
Girl Trouble weren't invited to the big Sub Pop SP-20 festival, even though the band's debut LP was also Sub Pop's first long player (a 1988 split release with K Records called Hit It Or Quit It, matrix number K-SP20). So they invited themselves, and played an acoustic show outside the official concert on the grounds of Merrymoor Park. Find out more about Girl Trouble at their official web presence. Thanks for the tip, Kendall.

A MARVEL COMICS ANIMATION PRESENTATION
THE INCREDIBLE HULK
"Origin of the Hulk"
"Enter the Gorgon"
SPIDERMAN
Opening Sequence
"Where Crawls The Lizard"
I lived for these cartoons as a child, primarily for the theme songs. I was crazy for theme songs and these are pretty choice. Plenty of TV shows I would watch religiously but only for the first five minutes, after which I'd lose interest and wander off lost in inner space.
Iron Man, the Mighty Thor and Captain America all had their own shows in this series as well, and along with the Adam West version of Batman (Superman in any form was a square, NOBODY liked Superman), these superheroes became an intimate part of my childhood play. The kids in my neighborhood spent hours in backyards, playgrounds and vacant lots pretending to be one hero or another in any number of improvised scenarios -- I liked being Batman best because he got to be Catwoman's boyfriend sometimes when she used her secret love spray on him. My initial introduction to the Marvel Comics universe was through these clunky, barely-animated cartoons because my mom wouldn't let me have superhero comics -- they were too violent. What an innocent time the early 70s were.
Anyhow, these cartoons are as old as I am. None of us have held up well.

From the comments section:
"The video is an excerpt taken from an old (1982) video that made its rounds among evangelical churches. Most of it is completely untrue and what is partially true is sensationalized beyond recognition.
The NCCJ (http://www.nccj.org/) said this about it at the time:
"The film does not - In our opinion - fairly portray the Mormon Church, Mormon history, or Mormon belief. It makes extensive use of "half-truth," faulty generalizations, erroneous Interpretations, and sensationalism. It is
not reflective of the genuine spirit of the Mormon faith."
It appears to us to be a basically unfair and untruthful presentation of what Mormons really believe and practice. "
http://www.fairlds.org/The_God_Makers/tagm35.html
The Anti-Defamation League of of B'nai B'rith said of the film:
http://www.fairlds.org/The_God_Makers/tagm34.html
In any case, a quick comparison of the "doctrines" in the film compared with the doctrines on the official LDS church sites, lds.org and mormon.org will demonstrate the problems with the film."

MARK LANSING & HIS BORED OF WATER AND LIGHT
"Friday At The Hideout"
"It's Cold Outside"
"Farmer John"
"Rip It Up"
"I Can Only Give You Everything"
Live 2007 ... Mark Lansing leads another band of crack players through the attics of his mind, this time to help raise dough for our long-time ally Steve "The Steve" Simonson, who needed expensive surgery earlier in the year.
A Capital City rock mainstay for decades, The Steve drummed for the Wayouts, the Clutters, the Board of Water & Light, Flushbutton and more (not to mention countless country/classic rock cover bands and lounge acts), then ran sound for everybody else. Sold drums at Music Manor, taught audio engineering at Lansing Community College, manned the boards at Harvest Productions, and legend has it that his mellifluous tones were the first sounds heard on Michigan State University's student-run radio station WDBM when it debuted in 1989. Also bartender, Elvis impersonator, raconteur, viper, voiceover artist, puppeteer, house painter, guru and genius, as well as father to Oliver and husband to Lisa.
Anyhow, a few of The Steve's many friends organized a day-long tribute/fundraiser to help cover his hospital costs, and that's where this footage was captured. All hail the Capital City thinktank!
