THE CRAMPS
"Naked Girl Falling Down The Stairs." Lux & Ivy's little mating dance during the solo break is adorable.

THE CHILDREN
Radioactive gas turns a school bus full of children into homicidal monsters with black fingernails whose mere touch cooks their victims alive. I first learned of this film on SNEAK PREVIEWS when Siskel and Ebert named this their "Dog of the Week." So you should watch this.

THE GIANT SPIDER INVASION
Directed by Bill Rebane (Monster A Go Go, Blood Harvest) and starring Alan "The Skipper" Hale Jr., Giant Spider Invasion dates back to mid-70s Wisconsin ... the marauding spider in the exciting climax was created by covering a VW Bug in fake fur, attaching spindly cardboard legs and driving backward so the red tail lights can pass as eyes. Always surprising, often stupefying, downright mind-expanding and innocent enough to be suitable for all.

THE HIDEOUS SUN DEMON
Never seen this before, I've long heard the legends and now that I lay eyes on it, I understand. A new curiosity for all of us to ponder.

SATAN'S BLACK WEDDING
Mark Gray is a Hollywood actor who travels to Monterey to attend his sister's funeral. Nina Gray slashed her own wrists and left a suicide note, but both Mark and the police believe there must be more to the story, since the corpse was thoroughly drained of blood and is missing the ring finger of its left hand. What they don't know is that an evil 200-year-old priest has turned Nina into a vampire and is commanding her to murder each member of her family. Ultimately, he plans to bring Nina and Mark together in an unholy union to conceive a son for Lucifer.
Satan's Black Wedding is an amateurish, low-budget feature, but it overcomes its many deficiencies where it counts, providing eerie ambience and maximum gore. The acting ranges from bad to serviceable, and a romantic subplot is unconvincing, but when the vampires attack, the viewer is given genuine creeps and buckets of red paint. The film's wretched lighting becomes an asset in these harrowing sequences, and the fiends are drooling, animalistic creatures with oversized fangs and dead expressions. There are no seductive vampires in flowing gowns and smartly tailored tuxedos here, just soulless monsters tearing into their horrified victims. As a result, Satan's Black Wedding won't appeal to most vampire fans and certainly not to anyone expecting any level of professionalism (the film refuses to acknowledge the difference between night and day, and the sound is awful, with dreadful hissing audible in most scenes), but schlock cinema devotees seeking uneasy sensations will find this brief obscurity worth an hour of their time. PSYCHOMANIA
Sublimely stupid British biker/zombie/satanist film circa 1974. Features George Sanders at his world-weariest. Don't miss it!
Posted by jasongreenwooduk1, who hosts an amazing assortment of horror films -- Hammer fans in particular should wade through his playlist.
THE BLACK CAT
This film is my favorite of Universal's early 1930s horror cycle ... Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi, satanism, ailurophobia, war atrocities, incest and a climactic flaying, this one has it all and is surprisingly subtle at the same time (best depiction of a medical injection in cinema). Non-horror fans should watch it for the incredible art deco set designs. Contains no Poe references, despite the title. Maddening, engrossing, like a half-remembered nightmare. Directed by the great Edgar Ulmer.

THE BRAIN THAT WOULDN'T DIE
Another slice of genius, this one you gotta see to believe. An arrogant young surgeon survives a car accident, but his fiancee is decapitated, so he whisks the head away to his secret secluded laboratory and keeps it alive artificially. Although she begs for death, the doctor is determined to fully restore her, cruising nightclubs seeking the perfect body for her transplant. Meanwhile, the anguished fiancee develops a psychic link with one of the doctor's earlier experiments, a horrible mutated mistake of nature chained kept locked in the cellar.

A BUCKET OF BLOOD
One of my favorites. Dick Miller is the most as Walter Paisley, the slow-witted busboy at a beatnik cafe who dreams of being an artist but is unsuccessful until a series of gruesome events earns him the respect of the bearded & beaded set. Roger Corman directed A Bucket of Blood in five days, and it's the rare horror/comedy that succeeds in both realms. Also, I once watched this with a girl on a first date and I totally scored before the thing was even half over, so it's apparently an aphrodisiac as well.

BLUE OYSTER CULT
"Godzilla," live 1980. As always, Eric Bloom's brilliant banter rides the fence between stupid and stoopid. Watch out, there's a drum solo.

GOTHIC SLAM
Saw this band play in an abandoned roller rink in Lansing, MI in 1988. There were about six of us in the audience. These guys were pretty terrible. I had just shaved my head a few weeks before and the singer pointed at me during the set and shouted "Skins rule!" Actually it was just really hot that summer and my roommate had the clippers, so it was cheaper than a haircut. What a buncha maroons.

PIECES
Here is the absolute fucking pinnacle of sick, stupid slasher cinema. Pieces is a non-stop car crash of over-the-top fake gore, surreal foreign dubbing, fever dream logic, slumming American TV actors (husband and wife team Christopher and Lynda Day George as the detective and the tennis pro/undercover cop) and unrelenting bad taste. Is director Juan Piquer Simon fucking with us or is everything that's great about this movie a complete mistake? If you can handle the abundant but unconvincing violence, this 1983 film might be the weirdest thing you've ever seen. Made by Spaniards.

BLACK ROSES
Essential rock/horror hybrid featuring Carmine Appice, Lou Ferrigno's wife and the guy who played Big Pussy on The Sopranos. From the same man who brought us Rock & Roll Nightmare. You'll love it.

SNUFF
Trailer for SNUFF, a 70s-era exploitation film with an unusual advertising gimmick -- that the murder scenes were real. Hilarious media frenzy followed. I highly recommend it.

BLACK WIDOW
Unearthed footage of this British band, one of the earliest examples of Satanic-themed rock. Not heavy, kinda like Jethro Tull fronted by theatre students, but peculiar enough to deserve mention.

First appearance, 1979. "Rock and Roll Nightmare." A sketch from a failed pilot called The TV Show. Uncanny as usual.
